Considered “the best there is” on the matter, Pitt alum and somehow NFL quarterback Nate Peterman gave his alma mater’s players a spirited pep talk on overachieving prior to their taking the field against 27.5-point favorite Clemson, according to sources inside the team’s locker room.
“Listen, there’ll be a lot of naysayers out there,” said Peterman to the amassed players. “Haters are going to be telling you all sorts of stuff: you’re in way over your head, ‘Jesus, why did we draft you,’ ‘Nate, just help Tyrod — or Josh — put his helmet back on’ — you know, the usual. But $700,000 and three career touchdowns [to 12 interceptions] later, who’ll be laughing then?”
Quarterback Kenny Pickett briefly spoke with Peterman afterwards on the optimal demeanor to have when playing big games.
“Nate had a lot of great tips on not looking surprised if I squeeze a pass into triple coverage that I actually didn’t see,” he said, looking in a mirror to practice the mannerisms Peterman had demonstrated for him. “When I asked him how to read defenses like a pro, he kind of shrugged his shoulders and said he’d text some guys for me. I didn’t think ‘just fake it until you make it’ was something you’d hear from a guy who’s played at the highest level, but I appreciate the advice, I guess.”
As of press time, the NCAA had formally blocked Peterman’s phone number after his ninth request for additional eligibility since this morning.
