PITTSBURGH — The Pirates organization immediately redeemed the season of struggling catcher Francisco Cervelli this afternoon by releasing him from the team, sources tearfully thanking God report.
“I thought this whole year was going to be one to forget about,” said Cervelli, enthusiastically saying goodbye to teammates as he hurried to a taxi. “Now, though, this day will hold a warm place in my heart forever and ever.”
The veteran suffered through several injuries and underperformed at the plate, batting .193 with 31 strikeouts as the season winds down. He is confident he find work elsewhere despite the unappealing stat line.
